    apps for 2020

Mobile phones are a massive part of modern-day society, as are the applications we add to them make the device our own. There are so many out there, too.

The rise in taxi apps, such as Uber, has been humongous, same applies to the various social media apps like Facebook and Instagram too. Then there are food apps which can recommend recipes or even enable you to order food to your door, alongside others from the online shopping world such as eBay or Amazon, which have also recorded huge success. You can also download apps like Google Chrome or Firefox to search the web, be it for cheap holidays, finding entertainment like poker and the many other games here, applying for jobs, or keeping up to date with the latest sports news. Essentially, there is an app for everything and everyone.

It can be hard to sift through all the new apps that get released, though, mainly down to the sheer amount of them. With that in mind, here are some of the best iPhone apps around this year so far. We've got you.

    Marco Polo

The rise in video messaging apps has been frankly obscene. Whether you're on the bus listening to the person next to you discussing their dinner plans with a friend who's in the gym, or you're having lunch and can't help but overhear the person beside you moan about their job to a parent, video messaging is impossible to avoid. Well, Marco Polo is the latest video chatting app. It does things slightly differently, too. The app enables you to record a video and send it out whenever you want, with the recipients able to watch it whenever they wish. Essentially, unlike many other video messaging apps, the message never vanishes.

    Discord

Discord's surge in popularity has been quite remarkable, really. Another chatting platform but for like-minded people, for example, in the gaming world, Discord is cross-platform allowing you to chat on both your phone and a computer. The features on the app are similar to other chat apps too, with voice chat also available. Really, though, as mentioned above, Discord's main selling point is its cross-platform functionality which does separate it from the rest.

    Very Veggie

You don't have to be vegetarian to enjoy the benefits of vegetarian food. Plus, everyone likes food anyway, right? Very Veggie - as you might have guessed by now - is an app which allows you to access various vegetarian and vegan recipes from around the globe. Once downloaded, you don't need the internet to use the app, which is a nice little addition. It can also filter the ingredients, meaning you can find something to cook before heading out to your local store.

    Twitch

One of the apps that is trending all around the world, Twitch is a gaming app which allows you to stream games, watch other streams and chat with fellow Twitch users as you take in the action. You can also keep tabs on various events, follow your favourite streamers channel and watch some recorded videos too. The app is also AirPlay and Chromecast compatible.

    Tortoise

A news app with a difference, Tortoise goes against the grain and strives to avoid sharing the usual news you see elsewhere. Instead, Tortoise prefers to prioritise slow news, which is essentially opinion-based news and less knee-jerk reaction type content which can grate on some. It's a subscription-only app, but you get a free month's trial, so you can see if it's for you or not.
